9:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
NCSU McKimmon Center

The AAUW Legal Advocacy Fund is sponsoring a Campus Outreach Program to address gender equity issues in higher education. While LAF may be known for its support of women plaintiffs fighting sex discrimination, this program is one of a series designed to improve the campus climate and lessen the need for litigation.

A Balancing Act: The Future of Fairness
(A three part workshop)

Part I: Will focus on individual communication skill building. Topics covered will include effective gender communication issues and women's development. Workshop presenter will be Dr. Martha Reeves, Visiting Professor of Sociology, Duke University.

Part II: Will focus on campus activism and how to effect change on campus.
(waiting confirmation of presenter)

Part III: Will be a panel discussion and include

  • Dr. Martha Reeves, Visiting Professor of Sociology, Duke University
  • Kathy Sokol, successful LAF supported plaintiff
  • Dr. Joanne Woodard, NCSU Vice Provost for Equal Opportunity and Equity and AAUW College/University Representative for NCSU
  • Leslie Essien, Student Leader at Guilford College and Student Affiliate of the AAUW Greensboro branch
  • Sylvia Newman, President, AAUW Legal Advoacy Fund

All who are concerned with these issues for any campus in NC are welcome. Preregistration by March 14 is required. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. on the day of the event.

For more information or to preregister, contact Michelle Moye, moyem@aauw.org, 202/785-7750. The number for the McKimmon Center is 919/515-2277.
