AAUW NC is committed to using Technology to improve its efficiency and effectiveness.

  • In 1996, AAUW NC started using e-mail to communicate and there is now aauwnc-list@rtpnet.org (e.g. listserv) that reaches almost all the board members, all the branches and many members at large. Posting a message to that list means just using that mail address for your message. To subscribe to the list send a message describing your interest in AAUW NC (branch affiliation, etc.) to aauwnc@rtpnet.org. For more details see the mailing list policy instructions.
  • Also in 1996, the first AAUW NC web site was created, and the Webmaster became a Board level position.
  • In 2000, the position of "Computer Technology Coordinator" was created as a Board Level position. The responsibilities of that job included being a resource for other board members as they used desktop publishing tools (e.g. "track changes", "mail merge") as well as maintaining the e-mail list.
  • In 2001, the "Computer Technology Coordinator" was changed to "Technology Chair" and the Technology Committee assumed the responsibility for the web site. A draft job description for this position was developed in 2002.
  • In 2002, an AAUW NC "chat room" was established at www.aauw.org and some committee meetings begin to be held online. For details, see the chat room information.
  • In 2002, the NC Online Satellite of the Winston-Salem branch was approved by the AAUW NC board. Contact aauwnc@rtpnet.org or see http://rtpnet.org/aauwnc/winston-salem for more information and other contacts.
  • A new policy on electronic communication was approved at the Fall 2002 board meeting. It has been incorporated into the AAUW NC Policy Statement.
  • For the Winter 2002 issue of the state newsletter, an analysis of the addresses by branch was conducted to correct the serious mistakes in the Fall 2002 mailing. See the Resolution passed by the board.
  • Information on handling "send this to everyone you know" messages was posted in January 2003.
  • Overview information on this website was posted in March, 2003 along with a lesson on using the Adobe Acrobat Reader to open PDF files. The web site info was updated in November to reflect the new www.aauwnc.org address. The flier does not refer to the "Members Only" sectoin of the site that can be found in the footer Quick Clicks menu. Check with your branch president or aauwnc@rtpnet.org for information on access to that part of the site.
  • In the spring of 2003, a revamped process for collecting branch officer information was implemented that resulted in making the branch contact information available by mid-July. See the form (much simpler than the Association's) and the reports in the Contacts and Branches sections of this web site. Note that the simplicity of the form made it possible for the data to be reported with a phone call to the AAUW NC administrative person, relieving the branch presidents of some of their paperwork burden.
  • In the fall of 2003, the domain aauwnc.org was registered, and while the web site continued to be hosted at RTPnet, several e-mail aliases and subdomains were established to complement the www.aauwnc.org web address. More info.
