Instructions
To subscribe to the AAUW NC mailing
list for issues of concern to AAUW, send a message to aauwnc@rtpnet.org
and give a brief introduction (full name, AAUW affiliation or reason why you want
to join the list). To unsubscribe, you can send the request to aauwnc@rtpnet.org
or use one of the options described below (that won't require a "real person"
to take effect).
The AAUW mailing lists at RTPnet
have three important addresses to remember:
- The e-mail address for the list
- This is the address you use when
you want to post messages to the list. Anyone who is subscribed to the list
can post messages. ["Subscribed" refers to your e-mail address, not
your name. If you wish to post to the list, be sure to use the same account
you gave the list when you subscribed.] You are encouraged to share information
with others on the list, but please do read the policies below. Here are the list
addresses currently in use:
- The e-mail address of the person
who runs the list
- If you have a question about the
list and want to "talk" to a "real" person, but don't want
to bother the entire list, send a message to aauwnc@rtpnet.org.
Mail to that address is forwarded to a few people and someone should get back
to you shortly. This is the address where you can send subscribe/unsubscribe
requests.
The Web address to change your address or other options
- Go to http://www.rtpnet.org/mailman/listinfo/aauwnc-list
to find the summary page for the list. Note that at the bottom you can enter your
e-mail address and password to get the names and addresses of others subscribed
to the list. You can enter your e-mail address at the very bottom and go to a
page where you can get a password reminder. With your e-mail address and password,
you can change your subscription options (even change to a new e-mail address).
If you are subscribed to more than one list at RTPnet, you can set your password
to the same thing on all lists by using the "change globally" checkbox
on the form where you change your password.
New methods of communication
Note that AAUW NC is moving
away from mailing lists and towards a multi-user blog system, news.aauwnc.org,
for its standard communication. This has the following benefits:
- News is stored in one central place and doesn't "clutter" everyone's
e-mail boxes.
- Information is visible to the public (minimizing the problems of getting
information to those who may be having e-mail problems or who have not yet
found us).
- The news is published in a way that it can be viewed as a "live
bookmarks" or an "rss news feed'. [More
about RSS.]
- It is possible to categorize the messages into different areas (e.g. "public
policy," "branch news") so that readers may more easily select
just what they are interested in.
- Information can be shared with other sites -- see how Asheville's
site lists the AAUW NC headlines.
For these and other reasons, expect us to be less dependent on the e-mail
list than we have been in the last few years. But we'll still be using the
e-mail list to post summaries of the news and time-critical information, so
do subscribe, particularly if you don't use an RSS
reader (which would notify of you of the news relatively quickly).
