Bylaws changes to be considered
Two changes to the AAUW North Carolina Bylaws have been discussed by the
executive committee (acting as the bylaws committee) and approved by the
Association bylaws chair for consideration at the convention.
- A change to allow the state to support a "branch without borders." This
idea originated with AAUW Montana, and allows for one branch that serves
the entire state to receive special support from the state board to fulfill
the requirements of a branch. This serves two primary purposes:
- Small groups of members can form satellites of this branch and maintain
the AAUW name in their community without all the overhead required
of a branch.
- Individual (at-large) members can join this branch instead of maintaining
separate at-large memberships with the Association and the state.

Information
on Montana implementation.
- A change to allow the state board to set the state dues for at-large
(individual) members of the state and to allow those from outside North
Carolina to join the state as individual members.

at-large members.
Important Note
Even if these changes pass, nothing (except
for clarifying the options for those outside NC to join the state) will actually
be different unless there additional actions:
- No "branch without borders" will exist unless at least 15 members of
the Association choose to join that branch and go through the branch formation
process.
- Members-at-large joining as state members-at-large will pay the same
amount as branch members ($11) until there is a vote of the board to change
their dues.
