Overview

The AAUW NC ReConnection Process is a multi-year effort to strengthen the branches and the state organization by "reconnecting" them to one another.

For background information, see the Reconnection section of the "About AAUW NC" area of this web site.

Goal VI

The charge of the Goal VI committee is

a) reducing the size of the Board by revising the structure of the state Board in any way that maximizes its potential to meet its mission. This discussion will undoubtedly look at the requirement that all branch presidents are Board members, committee appointments, etc. and hopefully discuss the strength that clusters may add to the formula for a more effective state organization.

b) creating a statewide "branch" or some other form of a
host branch to increase AAUW membership in communities
unserved by local branches.

Following that study, the committee will make recommendations to the AAUW NC Board, and following Board approval, will offer these recommendations for adoption no later than the date scheduled for the AAUW NC Convention in 2005.

This is an ad hoc committee which must be composed of at least 5 AAUW members. Currently the committee consists of Karla Atkinson, Joanne Hill, Joan Robertson and Mary Fran Schickendantz. A letter was sent to all branch presidents last month, encouraging them to recommend a member from their branch who might be willing to serve on this committee. No names were forthcoming.

Karla Atkinson is now writing some discussion points which will be the subject of upcoming Goal VI dialogues. This information will be posted on the state web site. The committee welcomes input from any AAUW NC member (especially MALs) as these "talking points" are posted.
Like any discussion, these talking points will be based to a degree on research in other states but more importantly, the disucssion will hinge on constructing a vision for AAUW NC that capitalizes on time, talents and untapped leadership.
