Candidates for AAUW NC Office

The offices of president-elect, treasurer and program vice-president will be filled by election at the business meeting 1:15 - 3:15 on Saturday, April 16.

Nancy Shoemaker, Raleigh/Wake County, is a candidate for president-elect. Millie Hoffler-Foushee, Greensboro, is a candidate for re-election as treasurer. You can read more about Nancy and Millie in the spring issue of the Tar Heel News.

Judy Atkinson, Winston-Salem, agreed to be nominated for Program Vice President after the deadline for that issue of the Tar Heel News. Linda Sarkis, Nominating Committee Chair, wrote:

The Nominating Committee is pleased to announce Judy Atkinson’s candidacy for AAUWNC Program VP. Judy joined the Winston Salem branch in 1998, after having lived in Iowa, Ohio, Montana, Arizona, and Oregon. She also taught Elementary Education in those states, and in North Carolina.

Judy completed her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Social Science from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. She also attended graduate classes at Arizona State University, Montana State University, and Portland State University.

An active member of AAUW, she has held the following positions in her branches: Winston Salem, NC: President and Program VP; Miles City, Montana: President and VP; Gresham, Oregon: VP. On the state level, she has contributed her time to several committees in recent years.

Judy has also been involved in her community as a school volunteer, a board member of the Forsyth County Infant Mortality Coalition and the Winston Salem Institute on Dismantling Racism.

Thanks to Judy for offering to share her expertise with us.

Nominating Committee

At the business session there will also be an election for the 2005-2006 nominating committee. The bylaws say that this shall be a committee of five, and the policies say that all shall have served as branch officers and no two shall come from the same branch. In practice, we try to have members from different clusters. If you wish to be considered for this committee, please do talk to someone so that your name can be placed in nomination.
