The AAUW Educational Foundation provides funds to advance education, research, and self-development for women and to foster equity and positive societal change. The Foundation began as a way to support women pursuing post-baccalaureate studies. NC is lucky that its excellent institutions of higher education tend to attract enrollment by fellows supported by the Foundation's American Fellowships, International Fellowships, Selected Professions Fellowships and Career Development Grants. See the keynote address from an EF Fellow at the 2003 AAUW NC Convention for an example. The Foundation also supports the Eleanor Roosevelt Teacher Fellowships for professional development for women public school K-12 teachers. This program changed in 2001 to make it easier for teachers to build on the fellowship year with follow up projects. Applications for all of the above can be downloaded from www.aauw.org, or requested from (319) 337-1716 x177. The Foundation supports positive societal change through Community Action Grants that provide seed money to individuals, AAUW branches or state organizations, and local community-based nonprofit organizations for innovative programs or nondegree research projects that promote education and equity for women and girls. Several grants have been awarded to groups in North Carolina. Contact aauwnc@rtpnet.org for information about partnering with AAUW in applying for one of these grants. The Foundation research program has resulted in a series of reports from the ground-breaking Shortchanging Girls: Shortchanging America, 1991, to recent reports on women in the workplace - both in academia and beyond. See, for example, the "Gains in Learning; Gaps in Earning" online report at www.aauw.org. To purchase copies of these Gender Equity Library reports, see the Shop AAUW!, (800) 225-9998, or contact a local branch to see if they have a group purchase plan or a lending library. To support these programs, AAUWNC has maintained a strong history of fundraising for the Foundation and has endowed several Fellowships and Grants to honor
There is currently one R&P grant still in the fundraising stage:
An American Fellowship in honor of former AAUW NC President, Ann Chipley is also still in the fundraising stage. All branches are encouraged to designate some funds to this Fellowship, #4051. More info on Ann Chipley. More linksNames Honored: All
