Report for Convention 2004Charlotte, North Carolina
LAF had a very good year in North Carolina. We are fast approaching our goal of $10,000 with a wonderful year-end total of $9483.50. This is from the latest report from The Legal Advocacy Fund. Twenty-two of the twenty-four state branches have contributed to the LAF to create this total. This is up from last year and we appreciate each and every contribution. We are still working toward a 100% of the branches contributing and we can reach this goal.
Fundraising in 2003LAF sends out quarterly reports to each state liaison and I have based my figures on these reports along with my own calculation. I recently received a report that differed by about $400 in our favor. We believe that this is a result of direct donations. The figures in this report differ from the figures that you will see in other publications for the convention. I apologize for this but the good news is that they are in our favor.
Top Ten Contributing Branches Asheville $1585 (1)
Top Ten Branches Per Capita Raleigh/Wake County $15.55 (1)
The national association has set a goal of $5.00 per capita for each branch and we in North Carolina have adopted the same goal. Fourteen out of the twenty-four branches achieving that goal or more are as follows: Asheville $10.03 LAF Travel GrantFor the 2003 convention Doris Bernlohr applied for a grant to bring a LAF Plaintiff as a speaker at the convention. This year, I did the same and we received another grant. Our speaker will be at the breakfast Saturday morning and then at a workshop for those who would like to continue the dialog or hear her for the first time. She will be attending the convention as well. She is from James Madison University in Virginia and has just settled her case against the university for sex discrimination.
New Year and FundraisingAs we begin another calendar year and LAF contributing time we are off to a good start. The breakfast raised $1030 to date and several branches have sent in their contributions. Our thanks to the branches who continue to be part of the LAF organization and welcome aboard those who are just starting to join this group. Again, it is our goal to raise $10,000 in the state this year and to have all branches contributing. It is helpful to have a person in each branch that is responsible for the LAF aspect. If each branch would adopt two goals it would help raise awareness and contributions. Two goals for the branches are to have an LAF point person and each branch try to contribute to both LAF and EF. Please do not hesitate to contact me to help you in any way that I can. Lill Van Order, AAUW-NC LAF Liaison |
