Summer Board 2004

The Foundation Board has made several changes in the fellowships and grants program, beginning July 1, 2004.

The amount needed to complete an American or International Fellowship has been increased from $100,000 to $200,000, and the time to raise these funds has been shortened to 15 years.

Research and Projects Grants have also been increased, to $75,000, and funds must be raised in 10 years.

Any fellowships and grants in process before 7/1/04 will not be affected by these changes.

The Board also approved the discontinuation of the Named Units program, since many had been started but never completed to convert into a fellowship or grant. Any that have reached $10,000 and $5,000 levels are asked to convert them into a fellowship or grant. Newly established Named Units are asked to raise the funds necessary to convert to a fellowship or grant by June 30, 2007.

The Board also put the Eleanor Roosevelt Teacher Fellows awards on hold for a year in order to assess it and see how it might become a more viable program. It has not been self-sufficient for several years. In addition the number of applicants has been disappointing.
