Change In Mileage Reimbursement Proposed; Vote Slated for Fall Meeting

[The text of this article has been changed from the published version to make better use of links to online Documents and to clarify the order of consideration of these changes and that the branch presidents are not reimbursed by AAUW NC for their travel even though they are members of the AAUW NC board.]

Two changes to the AAUW NC Policy Statement will be voted on by the board at its fall meeting.

The first is simply a formatting change that has been completed to make other updates easier. Technology Chair Nancy Shoemaker prepared this new version with numbers on all the paragraphs and a table of contents for the document.

In an effort to reduce expenditures, Millie Hoffler-Foushee, treasurer, presented a proposal on behalf of the finance committee, at the board at the July 11 meeting. It involves a policy change in mileage reimbursement for elected and appointed board members, recommending the first 50 miles of each round trip to/from state meetings not be reimbursed. After discussion, the board agreed to vote on the measure at the fall board meeting in Brevard. The specific change is to VIII.E.1 (or the corresponding section of the current policy statement if the first change does not pass) from

Reimbursement for approved mileage for elected and appointed officers and chairs shall be $.25/mile.

to

Reimbursement for approved mileage for elected and appointed officers and chairs shall be $.25/mile where the approved mileage will be the round trip mileage minus the first 50 miles.

See the Documents section of the web site or contact Secretary Pat Abell for a current copy of the Policy Statement.

Clusters Reorganized

The board agreed on July 11 to the merger of the Sandhills/Triangle and Northeast clusters, with the members of those branches to work out the details, such as a new name. The number of members in the different clusters as of February 3, 2003:

165     Southeast Coastal
166     Triad
172     Foothills
228     Sandhills/Triangle/Northeast
478     Mountain

Yearbooks Needed

Communication is essential when it comes to sharing information between branches and AAUW NC. Branches are requested to send their 2003-2004 yearbooks to the state president, membership and program vice-presidents, newsletter editor, and historian. Exchanging yearbooks with other presidents within clusters is a good idea, too. Swap them at the fall board meeting to save mailing costs!
