Brevard Branch Honors Karla Atkinson

Brevard Branch honored one of its' own, past-president Karla Atkinson, with the "Woman Who Makes A Difference" award at their spring luncheon. Karla is co-chair of the transition team at the Transylvania Arts Council, where she once served as assistant director. She serves on the boards of the Brevard Chamber Orchestra Association, Brevard Community Theater, and the Center for Dialogue. She recruits volunteers to work at the Brevard Music Center gift shop, and volunteers as a tutor at Rise and Shine, an after-school reading program. She was recently inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame at Kalamazoo College in Michigan, one of her alma maters.

Other notes from Brevard

The 34th Annual Used Book Sale was a great success. The branch opened the event on Wednesday evening, July 2, and continued through Saturday, July 5, with 67 members of the Brevard Branch, plus some husbands and former members contributing many hours to the success of this year's sale. Bob French, one of Brevard's two male members, chaired the sale.

Brevard looks forward to hosting the fall state board meeting on Sept. 20.

Workers at AAUW Brevard Book SaleBrevard's AAUW booksale was hard work, great fun, and very successful. Ladene Russell says, "Many neat stories come out of these sales-students doing research, families buying for small children, collectors filling holes in their favorite areas, bargain hunters who we know are worth millions." Lee Stewart (standing),  a co-chair of the sale, pauses to talk with Betty Reagan, who coordinates the mystery section.
