Executive Committee Meeting
Saturday, September 20, 2003

Laura Rumbley, Joanne Hill, Nancy Shoemaker, Pat Abell, Mary Peterson, Lill Van Order, Mary Jo Pribble, and Millie Hoffler-Foushee participated in a conference call after the Fall Board Meeting was cancelled due to Hurricane Isabel.

After questions were answered about the set up of the call, reconnection if cut off, and joining the call after it had started, Laura asked how everyone felt about using the conference call to conduct State Board business. Everyone agreed that it was a good idea.

Rescheduling the Fall Board meeting - Lill Van Order felt the Branch Presidents needed to be informed about the convention and other issues. A Winter Board meeting would be too late for some of the information. After discussion the board decided to reschedule the Fall Board meeting in Greensboro, October 11, 2003. Millie Hoffler-Foushee volunteered to secure the meeting place and arrange for lunch. She would post this information on the Listserve as soon as possible.

Lill Van Order said that we may not receive a grant that she has applied for because we were awarded one last year. Mary Peterson will put this in the program contingency plan.

Joanne Hill has the videotapes obtained at Association Convention. She and Lill will work on a plan for Branches to borrow and return the tapes.

Reconnection Committee - Nancy led a discussion on the Reconnection with the consensus that the subject should be included in the Fall Board agenda.

Convention Program Mary Peterson announced that there will be a Student Conference on Friday, March 26, 2004, with Dr. Teresa Dullberg, a faculty and student committee, and four or five colleges in the Charlotte area participating, along with AAUW members. There will be a charge of only $5 to students and $20 to AAUW members attending the Conference. Student leaders from around the state could attend. Five workshops are being planned. One will be on Educational Equity on Campus.

The convention itself will have four workshops, one by the winner of the annual book award; one on an updated No Child Left Behind; one on Voter Education; and one on Ageing or Education Equity. There will be an LAF Breakfast and an EF Luncheon. Banquet speaker may be Ruth Easterling, retired legislator. Hopefully Mollie Perdue, who will tell us about the status of Title IX, will be the Leader on Loan.

Mary Jo Pribble asked about Student Sessions or a workshop for student leaders on Saturday and if branches could bring student leaders to the Convention. This was applauded as a good idea. Branches could cover student expenses.

Other Concerns Millie announced that the Reimbursement slips can be printed from the web site.

Mary Jo Pribble asked about contact information for persons on the EF review panels. Nancy told her this information is in the Leadership Directory and she would provide Mary Jo with the information.

Laura asked if the executive committee could meet by conference call before the next Board Meeting. The members agreed that this was a good idea.

Nancy suggested that Branch Presidents could meet with President Laura Rumbley in a Conference Call. The service is free.

Nancy mentioned to the members that the March for Choice, supported by the Association would be held Sunday, April 25. This item should be discussed at the Fall Board meeting.

Millie Hoffler-Foushee asked how to handle issues such as Choice with new members who take issue with the Association stand. Mary Peterson said that she tells members that not all issues fit all members and do not have to be addressed.

President Rumbley reminded Millie to post the information on Fall Board Meeting, October 11, as soon as possible. The conference call was adjourned.
