Juvenile Literature Award

separator

The American Association of University Women-North Carolina established the Award in Juvenile Literature in 1953 to reward "The creative activity involved in the writing of juvenile literature and to stimulate throughout North Carolina an interest in worthwhile literature written on the juvenile level." The recipient of the award must have been a three year resident of North Carolina immediately prior to submitting a published work to the North Carolina Historical and Literary Association for judging. Books are judged by a Board of Award using a point scale based on creative and imaginative quality, excellence of appeal, and relevance to North Carolina and to her people.

The Juvenile Literature Award recipient receives an engraved cup with his or her name, the name of the book and the date of the presentation. The Award information is placed on a permanent plaque housed in the Museum of History and an autographed copy of the book is placed in the Special Collections Room of the Library at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte (Atkins Library, UNC Charlotte, 9201 University Blvd., Charlotte NC 28223; 2006 contact: Mr. Robin Bradham).

The Award is given each year to the resident of the State of North Carolina who, during the twelve months ending June 30, shall have published and submitted to the secretary of the North Carolina Literary and Historical Association an original work of juvenile literature of outstanding excellence which in the opinion of the Board of Award shall appear to be most worthy of recognition. All works will be judged without regard to length, but each must have been published in book form and may be fiction or nonfiction.
