For Fall Board Meeting
Sept. 25, 2004
Mary Peterson

You saw in the Tar Heel News the convention logo for our 2005 convention. Thank you Marty Folsom for sharing your graphic talent. AAUW NC Convention will use the Association's theme of Purpose, Power and Progress.

I am working with a committee from the Asheville branch and Ronald J. Manheimer, Ph.D., Executive Director, NC Center for Creative Retirement, University of North Carolina at Asheville. We will meet in Asheville on Friday, Oct. 8 to discuss having an Intergenerational conference on Friday April 15. Why do I feel this type of programming is needed? Many of our members are senior citizens, but we also have younger members and need to attract more younger members, so I felt an intergenerational conference day could help branches to strengthen activities and programming along these lines. I have stated that this program would be open to the public to give AAUW NC some visibility!

Friday afternoon Grace Walker, Joyce Horni, Sandra Abromitis and I will meet with the hotel and look at meeting rooms, menus, internet connections etc. I will be staying at the hotel Fri. and Sat. evenings. Will also discuss:
· the credentials committee job
· online registration
· banquet entertainment

On Saturday, Oct. 2 (Fall Board Meeting) the Program Committee will meet over lunch and discuss a keynote opener and do workshop planning. Some workshop ideas from the summer program committee meeting were: (1) Linking your branch and your local college or community college (Lola Jackson) (2) Equity is still an issue (Queen Thompson) (3) Use Technology in your branch (Nancy Shoemaker) and (4) (To be decided 10/2) Possible: A Fed. Public Policy "Hot" issue using our new Chair, Mary Stephens, and Betty Bayliss from SC.

We will have an EF breakfast on Saturday (Fellow or Fellows to speak) and an LAF breakfast (present or past litigant to speak) on Sunday morning. The memorial service will be later Sunday morning.

At the fall Board meeting I intended to ask the possibility of state board member donating frequent flyer miles to bring our originally summer scheduled leader, Shirley Breeze, from MO. I would use Shirley as our keynote speaker. I plan to use someone from western NC as our banquet speaker.
