AAUW NC and Democracy North Carolina
will sponsor a forum covering the federal judicial appointment process and the
new state Judicial Campaign Reform Act:

A panel discussion will include remarks by law professors and others. A question
and answer period will follow the panel presentation.
This community discussion has a twofold purpose:
- To help the public understand more about the federal district court role and
the federal justical appointment process
- To explain how the NC Judicial Campaign Reform Act can improve the election
of judges who sit on the NC Court of Appeals and the NC Supreme Court and the
response needed from the NC citizens.
Speakers
Dr. Louis Bilionis
Samuel Ashe Distinguished Professor of Constitutional Law at UNC School of Law.
In addition to his teaching and scholarly work, Bilionis has taken part in a number
of constitutional casesin the United States Supreme Court and in other federal
and state courts.
Michael Gerhardt
Arthur B. Hanson Professor at William & Mary School of Law. He is the author
of several books, including the second edition of "The Federal Appointments
Process". He recently testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee and
the Senate Rules Committe on the sonstitutionality of the filibuster. He was a
visiting Professor at the UNC School of Law last semester and is presently a visiting
fellow in the Politics Department at Princeton University.
Bob Hall, Co-Director of Democracy North Carolina
Hall is an expert on the new Judicial Reform Act
NC Court of Appeals Judge Wanda Bryant
Judge Bryant will talk about the need for this reform in state judicial elections
Refreshments will be served by the Chapel
Hill branch of the American Association of University Women.
