My thanks to the Jacksonville Regional branch for hosting the summer leadership conference. Feedback that I received indicated it was a quality meeting. If you were just being kind, thank you!

The program committee met in July and took the following action:

  • Choose the 2004 convention theme which is Making an Impact: Educational Equity for Women and Girls. Thanks to Marty Folsom for designing our convention logo.
  • Discussed workshop topics. A first will be a part II or update to the education workshop presented last year on the federal education act "No Child Left Behind".
  • Saturday lunch will feature EF fellow/s as the speaker/s.

The program committee will meet during lunch on Saturday, Sept. 20. Joanne Hill, president elect, will chair the meeting in my absence. The agenda will include making decisions about the workshops and the banquet speaker.

The Association and I are in dialogue about having Molly Perdue (a speaker we heard at convention in Providence) as our leader on loan. We will have an opening panel on Title IX: Where We are and What’s Still Needed. This subject matter is part our impact grant and will serve as a model for branch programming.

President Laura Rumbley and I discussed the idea of having a college student leadership conference on Friday and then inviting the students who attended to join us for our convention.

We attended a workshop in Providence on student leadership conferences. I am talking to Dr. Teresa Dahlberg of UNC Charlotte about working with us on this project. If anyone would like to be a part of this planning committee, please contact me.

The Impact Grant Committee is planning an issue forum on the Federal Judicial appointment process in the Raleigh area. The Women Studies Department at Duke had too full a schedule to join with us in this endeavor. At this point the meeting will probably be in late January…watch the web site and your mail for publicity.
