Resolution on Mailing Lists |
ResolutionWhereas, Tar Heel News, the newsletter of the American Association of University Women of North Carolina is integral to the facilitation of state business; Whereas, the board and branches need Tar Heel News to develop connections essential to the AAUW mission; Whereas, members depend upon Tar Heel News for information about activities, events, the Legal Advocacy Fund, Educational Foundation, public policy issues and all other areas, frequently of a time-sensitive nature; Whereas, Tar Heel News is often the only contact between AAUW NC and AAUW members-at-large living in North Carolina; Whereas, AAUW NC depends on the membership office of the Association for mailing lists; Whereas, the number of names on the lists from the Association have varied from 1952 to 2583 over the past two years and have often omitted members (see spreadsheet attached); Whereas, the list for the Fall 2002 mailing list omitted hundreds of members, including twenty-six percent of members in good standing of at least one branch, numerous state board members, and branch presidents, resulting in many hours of work to analyze mailing lists and communicate in order to facilitate delivery, plus the necessity of paying additional mailing fees; Whereas, AAUW NC pays for the Association mailing list service; Whereas, the Association membership dues were increased by one-third in 2000 and members donate additional non-tax-deductible funds for basic operations; Therefore, be it resolved that the AAUW NC Board of Directors urges the Association to address and correct the problems contributing to inaccurate mailing lists, in keeping with the professionalism for which AAUW has been known. Approved by the Board of AAUW NC, 26 October 2002.
