REPORT FROM THE PROGRAM VICE PRESIDENT: Grace Knechtel
At the last state convention, I began plans for the Summer Leadership
Conference. Sue Metz agreed to present a workshop on membership using
new material from the national office. She and Nancy Shoemaker worked
together to put on an outstanding workshop on membership featuring steps
in selling AAUW to perspective members and the public. Everyone
who attended the summer workshop took home how to knowledge
and useful tools and should be better able to approach the problems of
sustaining and building membership at the branch level.
At the summer board meeting, I met with members of the program committee
and other interested board members to begin the process of planning the
state convention. Since that time, a firm but flexible agenda has been
developed, four workshops are firm, EF Fellows are being asked to share
their research, application has been made for a Leader on Loan, and Doris
Bernlohr, LAF Chair, has applied for a travel grant to secure a litigant
for our convention. Doris is also working to bring a Campus Outreach Program
to the area on Friday, April 4, 2003 which will enhance our convention
(see the LAF report).
I had hoped to find a way to allow for more free time on Convention Saturday
but other than moving awards and the SAR directors to Sunday, I
havent been successful. Im still moving things around and
making adjustments but much of the planning has been accomplished.
See tentative agenda below.
